Pot-Up Container Calculator
Translate the seedlings you want into the space their larger pots will occupy. Add your buffer first, round up to complete pot groups, then reserve those footprints for the full post-pot-up stage.
Try your own numbers
4 container groups · 4 standard tray spaces
Check the whole seasonMeasure a real container group
Place the pots the way you actually water and move them. Include practical spacing and the carrying tray rim. The profile’s plant count is the number of pots in that unit, while its footprint is the shelf space that unit consumes.
Keep extras visible
The default model keeps all buffer seedlings through every stage. If you plan to thin extras before pot-up, use an explicitly reduced-quantity scenario and understand that it changes the plan quantity. The solver never makes unwanted plants disappear to manufacture a fit.
Include later pot-ups
A second pot-up can be added as another stage with its own duration and group size. Each boundary changes the footprint. Review hardening-off capacity as well: the plants may leave indoor lights but still need a protected staging area before transplant.
Worked example
48 final plants with 0% extra, grouped as 12 four-inch pots per standard tray, require 4 tray spaces. At 10% extra, 53 started seedlings require 5 groups.
These calculations describe space and time, not guaranteed plant performance. Use your actual equipment and crop-specific growing guidance.
