Seed Starting Space Calculator
Seed-starting space is a time-dependent measurement. Count the footprint of every batch active on the same day, for each kind of growing space you own.
Try your own numbers
4 nominal 10 × 20 trays in a uniform orientation
Check the whole seasonUse one consistent footprint
This planner uses a standard tray space as a common reference. Custom trays and pot groups can occupy fractions or multiples. Conversion happens when you define the container profile, so each batch automatically reserves its required physical groups.
Avoid area-only optimism
Dividing total shelf area by tray area can produce an impossible arrangement. Whole rectangles, tray rims, access, and usable light matter. The shelf calculator shows two uniform orientations; it is an estimate you should confirm with actual equipment.
Plan around the busiest day
The resource view reports weekly peaks based on daily checks. It names the specific contributors at the peak. Extra-capacity suggestions hold your current dates constant. They are useful shopping bounds, not a claim that no cheaper rescheduling solution exists.
Worked example
If one batch uses 3 trays and another uses 2 on the same shelf and date, you need 5 tray spaces. If the first leaves before the second arrives, the peak is 3, not 5.
These calculations describe space and time, not guaranteed plant performance. Use your actual equipment and crop-specific growing guidance.
